DRMC Emergency Room Nurse Manager Randy Bishop says his staff keeps current on trends of
summertime emergencies. Water-related injuries, like near drownings, spinal injuries and fractures
from diving and boating accidents, are seen in DRMC's emergency room each summer. Motor
vehicle accidents (MVAs)many single vehicle and alcohol relatedare the most common cause
of emergency room trauma, according to DRMC Chief of Staff and emergency room physician Ben
Till, M.D. All-terrain vehicle (ATV) accidents are not as common in this area as MVAs, but usually
are more serious. Dr. Till notes, "There is a higher incidence of mortality from ATVs than
motorcycles." Multiple fractures, head injuries and lacerations often occur in ATV accidents.
